The JV boys defeated the Lancers on Friday night 43-39 as the Eagles has to battle back two different times during the first half.
After a slow start the Lancers jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but at the end of the first, Destin Jackson nailed a three quarter court heave at the buzzer to put the Eagles up 13-12 after 1. Jackson finished with a team high 17 points to go along with 3 steals, 5 boards, and 4 assists. He and Kaleb Murphy paced the Eagles on offense. Murphy, who picked up his 4th double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds, also protected the rim nicely with 4 blocks.
Oakland controlled the second quarter. At one point the Lancers held a 6 point lead of their own but the Eagles wouldn’t go away. A Nathan Williams three cut the lead to 28-25 going into halftime.
In the third, the Eagles picked up the defensive intensity. Tyrek Harrison led the charge on the defensive end, causing havoc in a full court press. Daniel Lutes had a team high 6 steals to go along with 5 rebounds. The third was all Eagles as they outscored the Lancers 11-3 in the frame.
Solid defense in the fourth allowed the boys to hang on to the win. Evan Mick was critical in the victory as he limited the Lancers best offensive threat to only 9 points in the game. As a team, the Eagles held the Lancers to just 11 second half points. Next the Eagles will face Lutheran Northwest on Tuesday night.
